My Blank Canvas: Westley's Nursery 3.0

You know this child belongs to me when this is the THIRD room he has inhabited within his first year of life… Hang on little guy, it’s going to be a wild ride with us as your parents!!! :)

All to say, if you missed Part I (the closet we welcomed him home to) or Part II (I LOVED this room!), you can catch up now…

When we moved, I immediately knew I wanted this room to be Westley’s. I loved the huge window and thought it would be a great space for him to play and enjoy, not just sleep. I also knew I wasn’t ready to transition him to a full-on big boy room yet, so I wanted to make use of much of what we had, while giving it an updated/slightly more mature feel. Enter in the primary colors - red, blue and yellow. It feels like a true toddler’s room.

How it came together…

I reused his crib, changing table, the mirror, rocker/glider and neon sign from Nursery 2.0; changing out the rug, curtains, wall art and toy storage and adding in the vintage table and chairs to give it a refreshed look.

I’ve had this massive canvas flag for years and I always envisioned using it in a space to create a Ralph Lauren-inspired vibe… This is far from the RL look I have in my mind, but I love how bold and eye-catching this flag is. It provides a great alternative to painting or wallpapering, which I didn’t have the bandwidth for when I was working on this space.

By layering in some bold primary colors, I made the room feel more mature - instead of the light neutrals and baby blues of Nursery 2.0, perfect for an infant, this one feels better suited to a toddler.

The table and chairs were gifted to us from my in-laws; I found the red lamp (sitting on the changing table) off Facebook Marketplace for $5 and gave it a fresh coat of paint.

I found the small white chest for toys off Facebook marketplace for $50 and the floating shelves new from Lowes and curtains from Amazon. Shop the full look below!

I tied in the grey velvet rocker glider by including grey in the sheets of the crib and changing table pad. The pops of white - found in the curtains, rug, stripes of the flag, pillow, blanket, changing mat - help lighten the grey and bridge the gap between the grey and primary colors.

I was initially hesitant about how the darker brown antique kids table would mesh with the white-washed crib and changing table/dresser, but thanks to our beloved oversized teddy bear Gerald, the brown feels balanced.

I brought in fresh leaves to give the space a natural feel, and positioned toys and books with complimentary primary color palettes front and center to tie in the chairs, flag and rug.
