One random afternoon I was perusing Facebook Marketplace (as I often do) when I stumbled upon a canopy bed frame and it got me thinking…

I put in an offer, we negotiated a bit, she said it was mine and I could come pick it up the next day.

I was thrilled. We had wanted a bigger bed for awhile, but it never felt important with a newborn and a ton of other things going on. BUT, when I found this frame I thought to myself, let’s see if someone wants our bed and then it will all just “fall into place”! HA.

I listed ours and within an hour someone bought it. A few exchanges later, she asked if I’d throw in the nightstands, rug and lamps, to which I happily agreed... because it meant I could re-do the entire space!

To my surprise, shortly after I sold our bed, the person I planned to purchase the new frame from reneged… and to Mike’s surprise, we then slept on our mattress on the floor for the next week!

The beauty of increasing the size of your bed is it’s heavenly delicious. The downside is, you need all new everything - properly sized sheets, duvet, blankets, (king) pillows, etc. It threw a wrench in my usual “I love repurposing our existing belongings” mindset because now I was working with a blank canvas.

The order in which this space came together: bed frame -> mattress/sheets/duvet insert, etc. -> bedding -> lamps -> throw pillow cases -> wallpaper -> throw blanket for chair -> rug -> art above chair.

I’ve been obsessed with light blue for the past year, so I went searching for light blue bedding, found this set and fell in love.

I knew I wanted to do something with the walls, but painting felt like too much effort and I’ve wanted to try removable/peel-and-stick wallpaper for awhile now. I looked through hundreds of options online, found this one and thought it would make a great contrast against the toile bedding pattern. The install itself wasn’t too bad. It took about 5-6 hours start to finish, but probably would have gone faster had I chosen less of a distinctive pattern. I love the look and the effect it has, it’s completely mess-free and is perfect for rental properties. Will definitely do it again.

Pro-tips for wallpapering: patience, don’t stretch it, follow the directions completely and pick up a scraping tool. A second set of hands and having the right tools for the job ALWAYS makes a difference.

I knew I was taking a chance going with such a huge bed and prominent frame in a smaller sized bedroom, and even though it takes up ~80% of the room, I just love it. I needed to find narrow nightstands though because I only had ~16” to work with on either side, which was impossible to find in the pre-loved marketplace. I went new/retail with these because of their beautiful marble top, metal base and simple profile. They came with a brass pull which I changed to chrome to match the hardware on the barn door to our closet. They’re not too small that they feel dinky - they actually ground the space because they’re individually very heavy.

Additional finds:

Rather than buying new 26x26 Euro pillows for the back, I leveraged the extra 24x24 inserts I had on hand, purchased new linen covers (inexpensive off Amazon) and used 4 instead of 3 Euro’s to account for a minor height difference. I really wanted it to feel filled out.
Lamps are Tahari Home found at Homegoods in Boulder. The sheets are percale in a swordfish pattern by Tommy Bahama.
The art is a piece my sister made with her best friend when they were in elementary school. I’ve always loved it, so I salvaged it from my moms on a recent trip. It adds the perfect pop and adds a little chaos to an otherwise serene space.
The rug was an afterthought - the one I originally purchased ended up in our living room, so I opted for a simple blue/white combo because the space had enough going on already.
Repurposed: silver & pink throw pillows, neutral chair, silver stump side table, vases.

The end result is a blend of white & light blue patterns and textures, with crystal, marble and metal materials mixed in… and I absolutely love how it turned out. What do you think?!
